In June 2019, Outside the Box completed a 90-minute workshop at Family Freedom Center in Duluth for a hands-on learning approach to understanding different types of renewable energy.
The workshop featured K'nex, which are kits using connectable pieces to build small models showcasing renewable energy. These included wind, hydro (water), and solar powered models.
We found that while presentations on an unfamiliar topic (even short ones) only hold a young person's attention (or anyone's really) for so long, participants were truly engaged in the building process, and families were excited to see their children make something with their own hands.
